Memoirs of a Widowed Mistress (Autographed)

It is a controversial, but fascinating new memoir by a woman who was involved in an extramarital relationship for five years. She tells her story of not finding love with her husband and launching into what she thought would be a quickie affair. Instead, she ended up finding enduring love &, in fact, a soul mate. The relationship only ended when her lover was diagnosed with a rare blood condition and died shortly thereafter.

Author Megan van Eyck has contributed a guest post about reader reaction to her story & is providing one autographed copy of the book to a reader who will be selected at random.

Join the discussion! Share your thoughts and be entered to win before 11:59 p.m. (Pacific time) on May 15, 2011 by visiting Colloquium!

The Midwife’s Confession by Diane Chamberlain

Whoa. This is one HEAVY book.

Oh, it may have the usual three hundred or so pages (I didn’t look). It’s the topic that’s heavy. I’ll let you check it out for yourself over at Luxury Reading, but doesn’t the title alone give you a hint? The Midwife’s Confession.

Check OUT this book, its review, and all that other stuff. Like I said, it’s being featured over at Luxury Reading, and one copy is up for grabs to folks in the US or Canada. Enter by May 6 and be sure to take advantage of the bonus entries.

In Stitches by Anthony Youn

Speaking of reviews and gives (which are among my favorite give posts), Alyce from At Home with Books has one for us. She’s got a copy of In Stitches, written by Anthony Youn.

In Stitches. Humor, right? We’re laughing. That sort of being in stitches?

Nope.

Plastic surgery, baby. Only… there’s more to it than that. This is a memoir about BECOMING a plastic surgeon. In fact, it’s about Dr. Youn’s years in medical school.

Oh, go read the review.

One copy is up for grabs,to US and Canadian friends only. Enter by May 8.

Russian Winter by Daphne Kalotay

Bonnie at Redlady’s Reading Room is such a lady. She just is. (Now, for all I know, my perception of who she is really is entirely wrong and she is coarse in person and highly objectionable. But I doubt it. She’s just too nice and lovely online!)

So I’m pleased to tell you about her latest blog event, a review and give of Daphne Kalotay’s Russian Winter.

This is another cover I love, even if there’s no six-pack of abs on it. It’s elegant and quiet and lovely.

And the storyline? Sheesh. I NEED to read this one. Check it out, and then, if you’re in the US or Canada, you can enter to win one copy of Russian Winter. There are three different ways to enter and yes, you can do all three. Just do it before May 10.

Two from Jessica’s Musings!

Let’s welcome Jessica’s Musings to Win a Book, shall we?

She’s got TWO links for us, as well. That’s a great way to start things off over here, isn’t it?

Both are a little too religious for me, but since when do my tastes matter? They don’t. YOURS do, and so I’m more than glad to tell you about anything under the sun. And some stuff over the moon. West of Mars. On planet Pluto… you get the picture.

Here are the books, complete with their links.

A Conversation with God by Alton Gansky. This is a Continental US-only contest, with a deadline of May 13. (Please note that bit about this being good for the lower 48 only!)

and

Following Jesus, the Servant King by Jonathan Lunde. This is also a Lower 48 contest (hey, I sorta like that phrasing!) with a deadline of May 13.

Nothing like keeping it easy for Jessica. Start ‘em at the same time. End ‘em at the same time. You guys who juggle multiple contests amaze me.

Ten Beach Road (and) Magnolia Wednesdays by Wendy Wax

Yep, we’ve got TWO books for ONE winner over at Romance Author Buzz. (And no bad jokes about the buzz this post, either! Bonus!)

Both books were written by Wendy Wax, and one is a brand-new release while the other is being released in paperback. In other words: they’re still new, hot, and newsworthy!

Even better is the interview the two women (Marilyn and Wendy) did for your benefit. Wow. Good questions; great answers. Check it out, no matter where in the world you’re in. I keep saying — because it’s true — that I’ve discovered more *great* authors by reading interviews and guest blog posts than I do by reading reviews.

So. Want to win Ten Beach Road and Magnolia Wednesdays? You MUST be in the US in order to be the chosen one. I’ll let you read the rest of the rules. No deadline’s listed but you know my attitude: do it now, before you get too busy and/or forget.

Defiant by Kris Kennedy

There’s a new buzz over at Romance Author Buzz. (Oh, like you didn’t expect to see THAT sooner or later? Sheesh)

Author Kris Kennedy has stopped in to talk about her new book, Defiant. I’d have rather talked about the dude on the front cover (six pack!), but… it’s not like most authors have any say over their cover models. Let alone the ability to take them home and loan them out for awhile. Which is a shame.

Anyway, this is about the BOOK, not the cover. Ms. Kennedy is fun. Very bubbly and you can hear her laughing as you read her replies. Check it out.

And then… if you’re in the US, you can enter to win a copy of Defiant. (which just got a starred review in Publisher’s Weekly, which is HIGH praise) Check out the rules and enter to win by May 26.

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

I’ve mentioned Rainbow Rowell’s Attachments before. I know I have. How do you forget a first name as cheery as Rainbow?

Today, there’s a review and give of the book up over at Word Lily. Check it out; I got an entirely different view of this book than I’d had before.

The contest to win a copy of Attachments is for the US/Canada only. It’s super-duper easy to enter, so be sure to do so before May 2.

Short Story Writing Contest!

Yep, I’m serious. Pia at So Many Books, Here’s Mine has decided to have a bit of fun. And given how many of us are complaining about a wet, rainy (and flooded) spring, I think we’ve got the time to sit and have fun with her. Here’s the skinny:

It’s a Short Story Writing Contest (in 10 sentences)

Prizes are 5 Books for US/Canada
Time Of My Life by Allison Winn Scotch
The Fruit Of The Dendragon Tree by Paul Deepan
A Scottish Ferry Tale by Nancy Volkers
Nice Meeting You by Phil Torcivia
Recovery by Alexandrea Weis

A $10 Amazon Gift card for U.S/ Int’l

Contest Ends May 7, 2011 at 10pm PST

I HAVE written a short story in 10 sentences or less. (Check out my Demo Tapes anthologies for them) It ain’t easy, but if you’re up for the challenge it’s possible. Go for it.
